Invasive Plant Species Removal

This Corporate Volunteering Calendar activity is ideal for those who want to get outdoors and support native wildlife through volunteering.

Bull Island Nature Reserve is over-run with a non-native species of plant called Sea-Buckthorn. You might wonder why this is a problem? Well, Sea-Buckthorn grows in a thicket, shading out our native dune plants. This completely alters the character of the local dune habitat which in turn affects the numbers and types of invertebrates (e.g. earthworms, insects, crabs, squid, starfish), birds and other wildlife that can live and survive in the reserve.

Join us as we walk through this beautiful nature reserve and divide into pairs to remove this thorny pest.

All equipment provided including thick rubber gloves. This event will be led by Volunteer Ireland in partnership with Bull Island Interpretive Centre.

Ticket Price: €35 plus booking fee
