Each year across Ireland, National Volunteering Week includes a range of events, stories and videos that showcase all that is great about volunteering. The theme for National Volunteering Week 2023 was 'Connecting Communities'.

National Volunteering Week is a weeklong celebration of volunteering. Along with the network of Volunteer Centres, Vounteer Ireland uses National Volunteering Week to amplify the incredible stories of volunteering in our communities through social and traditional media. It’s a week full of events, both online and in person, with everything from yoga to coffee mornings to seminars on offer.

This year’s National Volunteering Week theme was ‘Connecting Communities’. Volunteering is an act of profound generosity that can transform our communities into more diverse, dynamic, and welcoming spaces. By offering our time and skills to support the needs of others, we not only strengthen our communities, but also deepen our own sense of belonging and connection.

This National Volunteering Week, we celebrated the power of volunteering to enrich our communities, bridge social divides, and create opportunities for meaningful connection.

Get involved

We’ll be releasing details about National Volunteering Week 2024 soon, but in the meantime, here are a few ways you can get involved:

  • Gather stories of volunteers to share on your social channels during National Volunteering Week.
  • Plan an event – could you give your volunteers an opportunity to upskill? Maybe a social coffee morning or afternoon tea for volunteers to get together.
  • Think of ways you can show appreciation for your volunteers. We have lots of ideas here on our website like throwing a thank you party, making recognition certificates, or showing volunteers the impact they have through numbers.
