CASE STUDY: ABBVIE

Pharmaceutical company AbbVie, celebrated its 3rd annual global week of employee volunteering, Week of Possibilities, in June this year. The Week of Possibilities unites AbbVie employees around the world with a single purpose: to give back to their local communities. In 2017 6,000 employees in more than 50 countries donate 26,000+ hours in just 1 week.

Here at home, with the support of Volunteer Ireland, AbbVie undertook projects with employee teams based in Cork, Dublin and Sligo. Each of the projects selected were related to AbbVie’s objective to help transform, promote and support STEM-related projects and activities in schools and colleges. In Midleton, Co.Cork, the team overhauled a computer room in a primary school. The Dublin crew revamped a science lab in a DEIS secondary school in Jobstown, Tallaght (photos below/above) while the Sligo employees repainted an entire training centre for people with intellectual disabilities as well as building and kitting out a new sensory room. Over 400 volunteers participated in Ireland during the Week of Possibilities, contributing over 1,600 hours and making a difference in the lives of many.
