International Volunteer Day (IVD) December 5th is an internation
al observance designated by the United Nations since 1985. It offers an op
portunity for volunteer organisations and individual volunteers to make th
eir contributions visible – at local\, national and international levels –
to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A part from mobilising thousands of volunteers every year\, the United Natio ns Volunteers (UNV) programme works closely with partners and governments to establish national volunteer programmes to create structures that foste r and sustain local volunteerism in countries. Through the Online Voluntee ring service volunteers can take action for sustainable human development by supporting the activities of development organisations over the Interne t.
\nThe International Volunteer Day (IVD) mandated by the UN General Assem bly\, is held each year on 5 December. It is viewed as a unique chance for volunteers and organizations to celebrate their efforts\, to share their values\, and to promote their work among their communities\, non-governmen tal organizations (NGOs)\, United Nations agencies\, government authoritie s and the private sector.

\nSo what is microvolunteering? There’s a few defin itions out there\, but the most generic one is:

The term ‘microvo
lunteering’ was popularised in 2008 by The Extraordinaries (now Skills For Change)\, where the concept has since grown in stature and momentum to be
come a global force for matching up people who want to put the spare momen
ts in their lives to more impactful use\, with worthy causes who need a sm
all volunteering task completed.
Sometimes it feels that we surround ourselves with policies and they bear little impact on the day-to-day man agement of our volunteers. This one-day course will explore exactly what p olicies you need. You’ll be able to explain the rationale for the various policies and explain their function. We’ll explore other policies currentl y in use and review their impact in terms of the quality of their voluntee r programmes.

\nThe Volunteer Impact Assessment Toolkit (VIA T) provides information and customisable tools\, which organisations o f all sizes can use to measure the impact of volunteering and therefore ev idence what is being achieved.
