International Volunteering

Volunteer Ireland and local Volunteer Centres services are limited to volunteer placements in the Republic of Ireland. To register as a volunteer with Volunteer Ireland or local Volunteer Centres a volunteer must have an Irish address and all volunteering opportunities publicised on or through local Volunteer Centres are Irish based.

If you are interested in international volunteering, we recommend you visit Comhlámh’s website –

Comhlámh is the association of development workers and volunteers: it’s a member and supporter organisation open to anyone interested in social justice, human rights and global development. Comhlámh provides supports and services to volunteers and development workers from the time they start thinking about getting involved right through to their return home to Ireland. You can check out their resources here.

Comhlámh strongly recommends that anyone thinking about volunteering should only travel with a volunteer sending agency that has signed up to its Code of Good Practice, which is an internationally recognised framework of 11 principles that ensure responsible and responsive volunteering practices. You can find out more about the Code and the sending agencies who are part of it here.

Follow #VolOps on Twitter and check out their #VolOps Facebook page for more information on current opportunities overseas.

You can also email or ring the Dublin office on 01 478 3490 to talk about any questions you have about anything to do with international volunteering.
