Volunteers required for an exciting and extravagant sporting event, hosted by the town of Athlone.

05/06/2008

July 2007

On a sunny July 14th 2007 the town of Athlone hosted one of the most exciting and extravagant sporting events ever seen in this country over the past few years. Over 1,200 athletes participated in the fastest growing sporting event in the world, a sport of endurance and pain, an event where weeks of dedication and training is required, where participants set out to achieve their own personal goals from course completion to accomplishing personal bests. Added to this is the self-inflicted pressure weighing on their shoulders of promises to sponsors and the benefits for the charities…it’s really a case of once you start you just have to keep going….no going back…just 10 more, 5 more, 3 more kilometers…

The streets are lined with spectators all jostling to get the best position, to see their friends, colleagues and siblings, to cheer them on and give them that extra support to carry them over the finish line…the town is indeed a hub-bub of excitement, with music and colour making the event a haven of activity!

In the background are the volunteers, those people who’ve given their time generously to support an event that would not take place without their assistance. Last year over 120 volunteers contributed to the success of the event. Without their help triAthlone would not take place, with them it was a resounding success.

2008

This year triAthlone is once again recruiting volunteers to assist on the day. Be part of one of the most exciting and exhilarating events of the sporting calendar in Ireland. Waterways Ireland triAthlone 2008 starts early in the morning and volunteers are needed to assist in the age-group event taking place in the morning and finishing in the early afternoon.

We are holding a Volunteer Recruitment open night on Friday, June 6th in the Prince Hotel @ 8pm. We look forward to seeing you there!

Alternatively you can put your name forward to volunteer for the event on Saturday July 12th by sending your name, email and mobile number to volunteer@triathlone.com and we will be in touch.

We look forward to an exciting day!
