JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Title of Job:                  Development Worker, Fingal Volunteer Centre

Purpose of Job:            To develop the Fingal Volunteer Centre as a viable resource for voluntary and community organisations and volunteers in Fingal

Responsible to:            Fingal Volunteer Group

Main Duties:

  • To carry out a review of services currently available to support volunteering in Fingal
  • To undertake research of best practice for recruiting, training and retaining volunteers
  • To work with the manager in designing a Strategic Plan for the sustainability of a county volunteer centre in Fingal
  • To organise events which promote volunteering in Finga
  • To network with local community and voluntary organisations, statutory agencies and Volunteer Centres Ireland
  • To undertake the recruitment of prospective volunteers, and their placement in appropriate voluntary organisations
  • Develop and enhance the volunteer placement service to county wide coverage
  • To provide training for local organisations in areas relevant to volunteering
  • To develop and implement appropriate volunteer policies and procedures
  • To maintain appropriate records & ensure the preparation of all necessary reports and budgets
  • To identify and seek funding opportunities for the Fingal Volunteer Centre

 

General:           

  • To undertake any other duties as may be required from time to time by the Fingal Volunteer Group in pursuance of the specific aims and objectives of the organisation.
  • To uphold the principles of equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice in all aspects of work.

 

Person Specification

 

The Ideal Candidate will:

 

  • Be familiar with the work of a Volunteer Centre, and the issues in relation to volunteering
  • Have knowledge and understanding of the local voluntary/community sector
  • Be comfortable working in partnership with both individuals and community organisations in a community setting
  • Be able to develop strong working relationships with a wide range of people and organisations
  • Have excellent communication and inter-personal skills, and be able to communicate effectively both in speech and in writing
  • Be able to work on their own initiative with minimal direction
  • Demonstrate effective leadership and management skills
  • Possess excellent IT skills, including packages such as Excel, Access and Word
  • Use clear and accurate report writing
  • Be flexible, with a willingness to travel and work outside normal office hours.

 

Desirable

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience of Community Development work, and/or a recognised qualification in Community work or a related discipline
