Judging Panel

Each year, a shortlisting panel is convened to read through every application submitted to the Volunteer Ireland Awards. The panel is made up of representatives from Volunteer Ireland, the network of Volunteer Centres and Volunteering Information Services, Volunteer Managers and community organisations. Every application is read twice by two separate judges. Their scores are then combined to give the overall score for each nomination. The top three scoring nominations in each category are shortlisted with the highest scoring nomination as the winner. This year's shortlisting panel was made up of:

Sarah Lennon

Niamh Lacy

Amy Woods

Following the shortlisting process, a separate judging panel is tasked with the difficult decision of deciding Ireland's Volunteer of the Year. They must read 9 nominations - the highest scoring from each category - and score them with the marking criteria. The judges marks are then added to determine the overall Volunteer of the Year. The 2016 judging panel was made up of:

Senator Colette Kelleher

Gary Graham

Darragh Doyle
