Alice Mannion, Kilmurry Drama Group

Castlerea, Roscommon, Category Winner

Alice Mannion is the Producer, Director, Secretary and Co-ordinator of Kilmurry Drama Group. Without Alice Mannion, there would be no Kilmurry Drama Group. The organisation started by Alice volunteering to help a small group of young people in the community to enter the Novelty Act category in the Scor na nOg competition and, thanks to Alice’s hard work and commitment for the last 20 years, the group has continued and gone from strength to strength. Alice writes, produces, directs and teaches drama to both young people and adults in the community, helping to put together and stage short novelty plays. Because of Alice, over 50 young people have been able to compete in Scor na nOg, reaching county finals on numerous occaisions and winning an All Ireland title once.

Alice also coordinates over two hours of entertainment for the Community Christmas Party every year, volunteering her time to produce a great show that is the highlight of the year for so many people in the community. Recently, Alice has also got involved in the Macra na Feirme competition, a drama competition for 20-30 year olds. Alice volunteered to produce and direct a play for a group, last year reaching an all Ireland final. Amy Finan nominated Alice for a Volunteer Ireland Award, she said “I cannot emphasize enough how much she is responsible for. She is so hard working and dedicated, absolutely selfless, generous and enthusiastic. This job could never be paid because it requires so much personal sacrifice and dedication.“
