RTE’s Claire Byrne was joined by TV3 presenter Laura Woods, Ireland’s celebrity chef Clodagh McKenna and Dublin GAA star Philip McMahon at the launch of the 2011 Ireland Involved Awards proudly supported by Panadol, as they begin the search for remarkable, unsung heroes of our community.
Laura, Clodagh and Philip announced the names of the outstanding volunteers they have nominated for an Ireland Involved Awards from
MS Ireland,
Grow It Yourself Ireland,
The GAA.
Shortly after being diagnosed with MS,
Mark Mitchell joined the Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Bray Branch.
He uses a rollator to help him walk or a motorised wheelchair if long distances are involved. Mark is no longer able to talk and uses a lightwriter to speak for him. This small electronic device ‘speaks’ the words you type into it. Despite these challenges Mark is one of MS Ireland’s most active Branch Chairmen.
Laura is delighted to nominate Mark as he is an extremely positive person. He doesn’t dwell on what he cannot do but instead does all that he can – which is a great deal by anyone’s standard.
If you know an outstanding individual like Mark, then you can nominate them for an Ireland Involved Award today at
The Ireland Involved Awards is an awards scheme that makes a difference. Thirty outstanding individuals will be shortlisted from ten categories. They range from animals and the environment and to international development, to sports and recreation and health and disability.
The finalist will be honoured on a national stage at the 4th Ireland Involved Awards ceremony at Dublin Castle on the 5th December, the International Day of the Volunteer, with the outstanding nominee named the Irish Volunteer of the Year 2011.
