Interactive Map depicts that Communities in Ireland Receive Almost €20 million in Support from Business in 2009

Over 3,000 community and voluntary organisations were supported by businesses in Ireland in 2009. €14 million was given in cash donations and 94,000 volunteer hours were donated by employees. This is the information being depicted on the first ever interactive online map to display the impact that businesses are having on communities around Ireland. The ‘
Business Impact Map’ was developed by Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI) and was launched today at government buildings by Minster for Community, Equality and Rural Affairs, Pat Carey TD. The launch was supported by members of the steering group which included: AIB Group, Bank of Ireland, KPMG, Intel and Telefonica 02 Ireland.
The map depicts the impact in 2009 of 30 large companies engaging in pro-active corporate responsibility under the guidance of Business in the Community Ireland. The companies featured on it include KPMG, Intel, Bord Gáis, Abbott Laboratories, Diageo Ireland and Telefonica O2 amongst others.
The map is designed to show the impact businesses can have on societal issues such as health, education, homelessness, social inclusion, disability and addiction and it is planned to inspire the development of further community and business partnerships.
